Architect Susan Turner

In April of 2025, Susan D. Turner (BEDS'87, MARFP'89), senior technical architect with Chicago’s Johnson Lasky Kindelin Architects, received the Envision Unlimited Humanitarian Award.

This came in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to making the Envision Unlimited Dream Home (a state-of-the-art, accessible group home, designed to enable seniors with disabilities to age in a place with independence and inclusion) a reality. Her work has helped to ensure that the Dream Home’s members can age with dignity, accessibility and flexibility.

A Canadian from Winnipeg, Turner has 40 years in practice, publication and speaking engagements across five countries on historic preservation and sustainability. In 2016, she was elevated to Fellow of the American Institute of Architects for a body of work demonstrating the adaptive reuse of historic buildings as cost-effective pathways for capturing embodied energy and energy-efficient construction.Â
