International Student Orientation - Winter 2026


Halifax
:ĚýNew Student Orientation in Halifax will be held in-person on Monday, January 5. Orientation will include an introduction to ±«Óătv, workshops designed to help prepare you for university life, and opportunities to connect with your fellow students. Stay tuned for more details coming in December 2025!

Truro:ĚýNew International students on theĚýĚýcan arrange early move-in to campus housing to allow for participation in International Welcome events (details coming soon). Further event details will be shared in theĚý, with on-campus events shared in the New to Dal - Truro group and virtual event details shared in the International Centre Community group. Stay tuned for more info in our upcoming newsletters.

The International Centre is hosting helpful virtual info sessions for new incoming international students in collaboration with partners to help you transition to life at Dal.Ěý

What really is Canadian culture like? What makes Canada unique? Learn more about “Canadiana” including Canadian multiculturalism, social norms, and more.

Winter Preparedness

Find out what to expect, what to pack, and how to combat winter. After this session, you'll learn to love the cold!

Off-Campus Housing Info Session


Brought to you in partnership with Dal Legal Aid, this session is a step-by-step guide on how to find off-campus housing in Nova Scotia and how to protect yourself from scams and avoid troubles with your landlord.

Immigration Essentials


Prepare for a smooth transition into life at ±«Óătv University as an international student. In this session, our expert immigration advisors will cover important topics such as study permits, study permit renewals, co-op work permits, and working as a student in Canada. Get the information you need to confidently start your academic journey at ±«Óătv University!

Health & Wellness Session


±«Óătv’s Student Health and Wellness will host Q&A sessions to cover topics such as on-campus health services, wellness management, medication, immunization, health tips, and more.

Want to learn more about the DSU International Health Plan and the DSU Health & Dental Plan? Come to one of these Q&A sessions to get all your questions answered!

Financial Literacy


We'll be hosting two Financial Literacy info sessions to help you manage your money: 

Banking and Financial Tips with RBC On Campus @ Dal: Royal Bank of Canada will be on hand to talk about building credit in Canada, fraud prevention, and transferring money internationally.

Be Money Smart: If you're planning a budget for the year and have questions about financial literacy, budgeting tips in Canada, and financial support at Dal, join this info session.

Nova Scotia ID/Social Insurance Number Clinic (Halifax campus)

In addition to International Student Orientation, the International Centre will host a Nova Scotia ID and Social Insurance Number clinic on January 6. Nova Scotia Photo IDs are an alternative form of identification so you don’t have to carry your passport everywhere, and Social Insurance Numbers (SIN) are necessary to work in Canada and do your taxes. More details will also be shared in December.
