Benefits coverage when travelling

Travel coverageÌýis applicableÌýto employees (in certain employee groups) who are enrolled in ±«Óãtv University’s health plan. For clarification, please refer to your benefit package or contact Employee Benefits at benefits@dal.ca to confirm your enrolment in coverage. Travel coverageÌýis applicableÌýto all eligible dependants listed under your health coverage with ±«Óãtv University.

Change to Travel Insurance ProviderÌý

±«Óãtv University changed itsÌýemergency medicalÌýtravel insurance provider toÌýMedavieÌýBlue Cross,ÌýeffectiveÌýApril 1, 2026.

  • Claims incurredÌýon or beforeÌýMarch 31, 2026,Ìýwill continue to be covered byÌýBeneva. ContactÌýbenefits@dal.caÌýif you have a claim toÌýsubmitÌýfor this period, and we will provide next steps and the required claim form.
  • Claims incurredÌýon or after April 1, 2026Ìýwill be covered byÌýMedavieÌýBlue Cross.

International Travel

International Travel Framework

Travelling Out of Country for more than 180 days

If you plan to travel outside of Canada for more than 180 days, you are required to contactÌý because you may be eligible for an extension of MSI coverage. Please contact benefits@dal.ca if your MSI coverage ends as your participation in the group health and dental plan is dependant on having active provincial health coverage.

Please note: travel coverage is limited to the first 180 days of a trip. If you are taking an approved Sabbatical leave out of country for a period of more than 180 days, please contact benefits@dal.ca as a travel coverage extension may be possible but more information will be required before this can be determined. Travel extensions are not possible in other situations.
