Students on the Agricultural Campus had another opportunity for some hands-on learning.

A curb and sidewalk project in front of Cumming Hall installed this past summer prompted a new landscape plan for students of Landscape Horticulture and Diploma in Managed Landscapes

Delivered by instructor Scott Veitch, students were tasked with developing a sustainable landscape that would be appealing through all seasons, that would flourish over the years and be functional

鈥淚t provides a sense of accomplishment for students to see their work come to life like this,鈥� explained Scott

The landscape is mirrored on both sides of the centre stairwell into the building and provides students with experience in soil preparation, stonework, cost analysis, implementation and public speaking as they present their concepts.

Ryan Jugan, a first year Landscape Architecture student from Saint Pierre et Miquelon has a good feeling seeing his work complete.听 鈥淚t鈥檚 a good feeling to have the soil in your hands and the sun on your back,鈥� he said.听 鈥淚t鈥檚 a good feeling to work with other people. We learned a little bit of everything from mulching, planting, using the right tools.听 Every time I walk by, I think 鈥榳e did that in three weeks!鈥欌��

The class was sensitive to not installing a large landscape that would take away from the historic brickwork of the building as well.听 Nearly 500 fall bulbs were installed during the last lab which will bloom in the spring.听 听听
