Services

Students in residence are supported by a staff of professionals and student leaders, ensuring they have a positive and safe residence experience.

Custodial Services is only responsible for the general cleaning of public areas, such as lounges, bathrooms, and garbage rooms.Ìý

Garbage

Residences include garbage service, but residents are responsible for ensuring all personal garbage, recycling, and organics are taken to the designated area and sorted appropriately.Ìý

Maintenance and repairs

We take maintenance issues in our residences seriously. If you see something in your room or a common area that needs our attention, please complete aÌýMaintenance Request Form (MRF).Ìý

Pest control

You need to report any sighting of insects or rodents to your front desk immediately.  If the issue is not reported, you can be held financially responsible for fumigation. You must comply with the recommendations of the pest control professionals on any necessary measures you need to take to fix the situation.

You should also submit a Maintenance request form (MRF) so that our team can ensure measures are in place to prevent future issues.

Storage

Summer storage for returning residence students

Summer storage is available during the summer for students returning to residence the following year.

Because of limited space, there is a box limit per resident, and space is first come, first served, so contact your front desk (for Halifax campuses) or the Residence Life Don (for Truro campus) early. See theÌýÌý(NetID login required) for details.Ìý

±«Óãtv accepts no responsibility for the theft, loss or damage of any items placed in storage. Talk to the front desk for more information on storage options and locations.

Bicycles

You can bring a bicycle to residence—all of the residence buildings have bike racks nearby, and some have storage available inside the building. As bike thefts sometimes occur, always lock your bike.

If you keep your bike in your room, you are not allowed to put bike hooks in the walls or ceilings, and you will be billed for any damage to the room or furniture resulting from storing your bicycle. You are also not allowed to chain your bike to stair railings, pipes or other fixtures in common areas. If you store a bicycle in an unauthorized area, it will be removed.

Parking

Before you decide to bring your car to residence, you should know there are very few overnight parking spaces available on the Halifax campus. Consider bringing your bike—many residences have bike storage facilities—or make the most of yourÌýHalifax Transit UPass, which gives you unlimited access to our city's transit system.

Risley Hall parkade

There are a limited number of reserved parking spaces for residence students at the Risley Hall Parkade. There is no overnight parking at any other ±«Óãtv residence or at any other lot on campus.

If you are interested in acquiring parking at the Risley Hall Parkade, send an email with your name, ±«Óãtv ID number and telephone number to reserved.list@dal.ca. Be sure to specify that you want to be considered for the Risley Hall Parkade. Requests will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
