Dr. Ingrid Sketris (College of Pharmacy) and Dr. Gerry Johnston, Atlantic regional leads for the Canadian Academy for Health Sciences (CAHS), were on the organizing committee for a public and a stakeholder meeting to discuss theÌę which informed the Canadian Dementia Strategy and related issues.Ìę

The committee was led by Dr. Howard Bergman from McGill University with additional Atlantic representation by Dr. David Gass and Dr. Melissa Andrew from ±«Óătv, Dr. Janice Keefe from Mount Saint Vincent and Dr. Jane Green from Memorial University.Ìę
A public panel presentation entitled âSharing insights to support caregivers of persons living with dementiaâ was held at the Halifax Central Library on March 5, 2020. It was well received with pre-registration at capacity days before the event and 65 participants attending.
The session was moderated by Faye Forbes, Anglican Priest, and included presentations from Dr. Howard Bergman, Chair, Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Panel on Dementia, Ms. Ann West, Caregiver with lived experience, Dr. Janice Keefe, Mount Saint Vincent University, Drs. David Gass, Melissa Andrew, and Ken Rockwood, ±«Óătv University.
It was jointly hosted by the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Mount Saint Vincent Universityâs Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, ±«Óătv University and the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
The following day, March 6, 2020 a meeting was held with stakeholders from government, Nova Scotia Health Authority, the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, health care providers, researchers, and others to discuss Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) Assessment.
Dr. Ruth Martin-Misener, Dr. Marilyn MacDonald and Dr. Elaine Moody from the Faculty of Health's School of Nursing were among invitedÌęresearchers with expertise in the field.
