In the MREM program, I had the opportunity to learn from interdisciplinary professors as well as from my peers, who came into this program with a wealth of personal and professional experiences. My cohort was very collegial and friendly, and this made the MREM experience very pleasant. I look back on my time in MREM with great fondness for improving my professional skills, such as report writing and public speaking, and my personal development as I have sustained great friendships with my classmates. Through my COVE internship, I had the opportunity to work with leaders in ocean innovation and be a part of this exciting industry in Halifax.

MREM grad is now a Climate Change and Energy Specialist
Recent Master of Resource and Environmental Management (MREM) graduate Ben John sees his new degree as the “perfect combination of knowledge lenses: environment and business.” After earning an Honours BBA with a major in business sustainability and a minor in environmental studies from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, John knew he wanted an education that would offer him both knowledge and experience.
Connecting with nature during difficult times
Last spring, Julietta Sorensen Kass was busy planning a project that would see almost 3,000 visitors to the Halifax Public Gardens interacting with trees via text message.
This year, things are different. Parks across Nova Scotia, including the Public Gardens, are temporarily closed. But Julietta learned a lot about how trees can comfort and delight people in her Text-A-Tree research. Now, she’s encouraging people to connect with the nature in their neighbourhoods and outside their windows.
Rebranding and self‑discovery in environmental management
Master of Resource & Environmental Management graduate Simone Charron is passionate about climate change solutions. “I’m really interested in how we shift our major systems, like energy production, transportation, buildings, waste and so on, to minimize resource strain and greenhouse gases,” she says.
Before coming to ±«Óătv, Simone completed her undergraduate degree in environmental engineering at Carleton University. While there, she volunteered with Engineers Without Borders Canada,...
